New Calendar Honors African American Breast Cancer Survivors and Promotes Awareness

October 29, 2015

A unique and beautiful calendar, featuring 12 breast cancer survivors sharing their stories as Brave, Bold, Black and Beautiful women, is now available online at www.aabcainc.org.

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance (AABCA) has fulfilled a long time idea to add to its culturally specific awareness information about breast cancer for black women and the community.  “Twenty-five years ago information about breast cancer and black women was little to none.  Now there are brochures, support groups and organizations around the country and the world that target and serve black people affected by breast cancer”, states Linda Finney, co-founder, 26 year breast cancer survivor and President of AABCA.

Founded in 1990 by nine black women affected by breast cancer, AABCA offers peer support group services and community outreach education to share information about breast cancer and cancer in the black community.

“We want to raise awareness about breast cancer and black women, share our journey, celebrate our health, happiness, hope and knowledge with others dealing with this disease,” says Reona Berry, Executive Director and AABCA co-founder, who is a 25 year survivor.

“We hope that the calendar will reassure women currently going through breast cancer treatment that your life is worth fighting for and that it is possible to emerge from it all with a new found awareness for a healthy body and a healthy sense of life.  Through this life challenge we learn how to become survivors and thrivers, as these twelve vivacious women share their testimonies,” Berry says.

Local artist and graphic designer James Wade of 2110 Design Group, the creative director and photographer Bob Holder of Holder and Associates worked together to create the calendar.

The calendars are $15 each plus $2.00 shipping with the order form here or the online order link.  Proceeds from calendar sales will support AABCA’s breast cancer survivor support programs.
