Share, Support, Survive

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance (AABCA) was founded in 1990 to educate and support African American/Black women diagnosed with breast cancer.  The Breast Cancer Survivors Support Project is a community outreach endeavor funded by the Minnesota Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to promote the educational and support services of the AABCA.

The goal of the project is to build community, connections, support and hope for African American women diagnosed with breast cancer.  The collaboration of community agencies, organizations, cancer and health care professionals and survivors sharing information and resources can help patients recover emotionally and physically in order to have better outcomes.

Breast Cancer Survivors Support Project Components:

  1. Marketing and Promotions
  2. Survivors Support Group Meetings
  3. Distribution of information and materials about breast cancer and African Americans
  4. Personal Guidance (one-on-one) for those newly diagnosed or going through treatment

“I was lucky I was listening to the radio when the topic of the show was about breast cancer and the AABCA. I called the speaker immediately as I needed to know I wasn’t the only black woman with breast cancer.” Autumn Frazier, 12 year breast cancer survivor.

“I found out about the African American Breast Cancer Alliance two years after my breast cancer journey began and I am glad I did. The support and friendship I have received I share with other women because I know how much it will help them get through this fight.” Betty Sanders, two-time breast cancer survivor.
