Celebrating 21 years of the African American Breast Cancer Alliance and Celebrating You, Life and Laughter!

The AABCA has an annual celebration of our organization established in October 1990 to share life saving information and social support for women and men diagnosed with breast cancer. We share our thanks to the many family, friends, medical and spiritual supporters that have been by our sides through our cancer journeys.

Being a SURVIVOR is hard work, but we did it inch by inch, step by step with determination, faith, hope, medical treatments and love. We are grateful for everyday and everyday is a celebration.

Join us on Saturday, October 22, 2011, 4 – 7 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Downtown, Minneapolis for an uplifting evening with survivors, thrivers and supporters.

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance, Inc (AABCA) reached a milestone celebrating its first 20 years from 1990 through 2010. It is a testimony to AABCA’s hard work and commitment to cancer survivors, community awareness, collaboration, help, hope inspiration, love and perseverance. With 2011, AABCA is ready to move on to new achievements, challenges and endeavors.

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance, (AABCA) was awarded a $94,080, 2011 Community Grant from the Minnesota Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure, to implement its new Breast Cancer Survivor Support Project (BCSS) for African Americans diagnosed with breast cancer.

The African American Breast Cancer Alliance’s (AABCA) first 20 year Anniversary and Cancer Survivors Celebration, “A Night of Shining Stars Gala” was marvelous! Over 300 supporters attended the celebration held October 23, 2010 at the Hilton Garden Inn, St Paul, MN, recognizing local cancer survivors, community awareness, help, hope and perseverance.

The AABCA committee truly appreciates and thank all our sponsors, exhibitors, family and guests– without all of you, the night could not have been what it was – truly entertaining, fun and memorable! Your support makes a difference and we look forward to seeing you next time!

Black women who had experienced breast cancer founded the African American Breast Cancer Alliance, Inc. (AABCA) of Minnesota, in October 1990. The AABCA is dedicated to providing hope, awareness, education, emotional and social support to breast cancer survivors, their family members and the community. Information and action is particularly important because Black women tend to have more aggressive breast cancers at younger ages and benefit from earlier detection and aggressive treatments.

The AABCA has been recognized locally and nationally for its collaborative efforts and innovative educational materials. Being There!, our motto and title of our breast cancer information brochure for Black women, seeks to empower women to take charge of their health and take care of their lives by becoming knowledgeable about breast cancer.
